Tutorial – Custom contact lenses

Submitted by Olieng on Tuesday, 8 July 200821 Comments

A true meaning to the term “eye candy”. This tutorial will show you how to add colors and patterns to your eyes giving the look as if you were wearing colored contact lenses.

Download the PSD to work with here.  >> Custom lens PSD <<

1. Face mask

  • With the polygonal lasso tool draw a selection around the eyes.

  • On the main menu go to Select > Inverse.

  • Copy and paste this on a new layer and name “facemask”.

2. Cutting & pasting eye

  • Go back to the eye layer, with the Elliptical Marquee Tool draw a perfect circle around the eye of the subject.
  • Copy and paste the eye on a new layer and name this layer lens.

3. Color and Gradient style

  • First choose the color you want your eyes to be, I choose a gradient of light green to dark green. Then turn your blend mode to “Color
  • Then choose a pattern for your eyes, this will become the design which will take over the white area of your eyes. I choosed the pattern named “strings” which should come default with your Photoshop.

Here is finished tutorial.

Practice with different patterns and colors.

that’s an easy effect but, haven’t found the way to make it look like “crystal” or with the white sparks that makes it look more Un-natural but at the same time fascinating

    Good tut. So easy.

Couldn’t find the ’strings’ pattern though and I’m using CS2.

I pretty much got it down but when I try it on a picture of 2 eyes, it will only work on one. Does anyone know why?

make a selection of both eyes before you do the select inverse to make the face mask..

after just select 1 eye at a time to extract the iris and make the lens layers.

    that should work =)
